Idea
The film opens a project about cities as seen by those who live in them. Cape Town is usually judged by stereotypes, but here it is shown through its people: emigrants, entrepreneurs, medics and artists. They share the upsides and downsides of life in South Africa and speak about work, creativity and relocating.
Visual language
The film is built as a trip through the city: Green Point, Hout Bay, student Stellenbosch, surfing in Jeffreys Bay, penguins and wineries. Interviews alternate with live footage of streets, the ocean and nature, and the viewer is led by the author, who is in the frame himself.
Production
From idea to edit, the film was made by me. I am the author, cinematographer and director, and I walk through the frame together with the viewer. A month of filming in Cape Town itself and the area around it yielded 53 minutes.
It was released in December 2024 on the YouTube channel CapeTimeRU, with more than 80 thousand views there.
