Idea
For Pier Askeladd and Lona the video became a road from a grey city to a fire. It starts cold and almost like a chronicle: panel apartment blocks, a yard seen from above, empty streets. Then people, warmth and colour arrive in the frame, and finally it all moves into a field at night, with the hero alone beside the fire.
Visual language
The video holds two worlds. The first is black and white and grainy, as though filmed on stock, and it contains the city, small domestic details and shadows. The second is warm and in colour, and it contains red light in apartments, a bar, snow, fire and a highway at night. The drama of the video rests on the crossing between these two worlds.
Production
Among my shoots this is one of the most crowded. Garah involved around 20 people, and here there are more.
The shoot ran both in the city and outside of it: in the yards of panel blocks, in flats, in a bar, on a highway at night. The closing fire scene was set up in a field.
