CINQUE. Furniture maker.

For CINQUE the point was not the furniture but the story standing behind it. The client's father produced mass-market pieces, and the son changed the scale of the business and switched to complex exclusive items in unusual shapes. The film is made about continuity, and about a craft that has grown into one-off work.

I started by working out the look, then laid out the director's treatment as a website, so the client could see the idea ahead of the first shooting day. After it was approved we met, went over the details and booked the shoot.

We filmed over two full shifts. When the first day was done I rebuilt the plan, and later we drove out to a field on our own to pick up extra footage with the motorcycle.

The crew is small. Directing, camera and producing were all done by me, and a gaffer joined for part of the scenes. The owner plays the lead himself, and his real employees were filmed with him, so the film about the people of the workshop was made together with them.
